Sunday: “Marks of a New Community”
SubscribeCrossPointe,
Last week we looked at Ephesians 4:17–24, Paul’s exhortation that we can and must put off the old self and put on the new in Christ. This week we continue with that thought in Ephesians 4:25–5:2 as Paul gives specific examples of what this looks like on the ground and in community.
But as we saw last week, it is critical to realize that the life-giving power of the Gospel is what brings about our ability to change. In other words, the lists of Ephesians 4 and 5 aren’t things we put off or put on in order to be right with God, rather they are things we can put off and put on because we have already been made right with God through Christ. Here are a few passages to read to prepare your heart and mind for Sunday:
- Ephesians 4:25–5:2 (sermon text)
- Romans 12:9–21
- Colossians 3:1–17
As we discuss the marks of Christ’s new community, the church, it’s pertinent to mention that (most of the) Community Groups will officially begin next week. Be sure to check out the list of groups on our website and find one to connect with.
Grace and peace,
Brad
