Of Figs and Faith
Dear CrossPointe,
I love writing these e-mails, because they help me think and distill the points of a sermon. This Sunday I’ll be preaching on Mark 11:12–25, and it will definitely require clear thinking! Thankfully, Mark has organized this text quite effectively. Using an account of Jesus’ cursing a fruitless fig tree, he sandwiches (and highlights) the glaring faithlessness of Jerusalem’s temple.
Jesus has much to say about the fruit of faith which we’ll examine. In fact, you might recognize this particular verse: “Whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (verse 24). We’ll talk about what that means for us too!
Please come to worship on Sunday having read the text, and prepare your heart to hear from the Scriptures joyfully!
Grace,
Robert
