Jesus takes just five loaves and two fish and multiplies it to satisfy the hungry stomachs of thousands. It’s striking that this follows Mark’s account of the murderous and lustful banquet of Herod. At that banquet, Herod looks for satisfaction in all the wrong places and never finds it. But at Jesus’ humble banquet in the country, the people looked to Jesus and ate and were satisfied.
