Acts 19: “The Gospel Disrupts Ephesus”

Dear Tribe,

We were going to take a break between the book of Ruth and Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. But instead I’m exercising my ability to change my mind—Ephesians it is!

This week, we’ll look at the Ephesian church’s beginnings, how the Gospel took root in a city along one of Paul’s missionary journeys. Acts 19 records this account and is itself a remarkable chapter featuring three vivid scenes of the Gospel’s invasion, really disruption, of Ephesus. The city’s culture was completely inverted by Paul’s message.

Here are a few things to prepare your heart for Sunday:

• Read Acts 19.
• Read 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10. (Receiving Jesus means turning from idols.)
• Pray for God to prepare our hearts for the study of Ephesians.
• Pray for God to draw unbelievers to Christ through this study.
