Dear CrossPointe,

Paul’s argument in Romans 1 is clear—no Gentiles can claim innocence because of ignorance. They are, as Paul says, without excuse, and their sins are obvious, shown by the list that concludes Romans 1.

But in chapter 2, Paul now turns his attention to the religious, to those who think they are okay because they’re not like those sinful Gentiles. We have a word for that mindset—hypocrisy! Our text this Sunday, Romans 2:1–16, levels the playing field and teaches that all of us need the gospel.

Read the text a few times before Sunday, and come ready to hear, heed, and respond to God’s Word. Being the first Sunday, we’ll also celebrate the Lord’s Supper together.
