Announcements, Oct. 16, 2015

Dear CrossPointe,

I've been looking forward to our text, Matthew 5:17–20, for a while now. In it Jesus announces that he has not come to abolish the Law and the Prophets but to fulfill them. This brings up several very important questions. How exactly does he fulfill them? What, then, is Jesus’ relationship with the Old Testament? What is the Christian’s relationship with the Old Testament? Are we still bound by the Law? Just some of it? None of it?

These issues are crucial for understanding the message of the Bible and how it all fits together. I’m really looking forward to working through this text with you! Make sure you read it a few times before Sunday, and pray God gives us wisdom. Also, here is an excellent (and short) five-minute video that does a fantastic job of explaining how Jesus fulfilled the Law and what its relationship is to the Christian. It will really help you understand this passage better.

See you Sunday,

Brad
