Announcements, Sept. 30, 2016

Dear CrossPointe,

This week we’ll be in 1 Timothy 4:1–5, in which Paul turns his attention again to false teachers who are troubling the church. In this case, some are forbidding marriage and the consumption of certain foods in order to attain a higher form of spirituality, which has led some to depart the faith. In the end, Paul condemns this false teaching as not just wrong but demonic!

While we may not deal with calls for abstinence from marriage or food today, I think we’ll see as we work through this text that in our own context we should be wary of this veiled legalism and deceitful teaching. More importantly, we need to be reminded that the only antidote to this error is the gospel.

Read the text a few times before Sunday. Also, it’s the first Sunday of the month, so we will gather around the Table and receive the Lord’s Supper together. Finally, we’ll be sending out Caleb and Leah Carr as they leave to be missionaries in Kosovo.

MWF: “Hard Sayings of the Bible” (Wed., 5:45–7:30 p.m., Oct. 5–Nov. 9) || Join us for six weeks of tough, even (seemingly) contradictory truths found in Scripture. Dinner ($5/person) starts at 5:45 p.m., followed by teaching at 6:30. There will be childcare as well. RSVP for dinner and/or childcare by contacting Molly Copley.

Dr. Crawford Loritts Preaching (Oct. 16) || Mark your calendar for our guest preacher on Sunday, Oct. 16. Dr. Loritts is the senior pastor of Fellowship Bible Church in Roswell, Ga., and a council-member of the Gospel Coalition.

Child Dedication (Oct. 30; class, Oct. 23) || If you would like to dedicate to the Lord your newborn or newly adopted child during the worship service on Oct. 30, please contact Robert Ward. There is a prerequisite class the Sunday before (Oct. 23 at 9 a.m.) in Classroom A.

Missions Conference (Nov. 13, 5:30 p.m.) || Save the date! Jeff Barkhouse will be speaking as we consider how we as a church family can support missions efforts around the world.

KidKeepers Needed || KidKeepers are paid volunteers who care for the church’s children during various events. If you’d like to serve contact Molly Copley. Volunteers must complete Children’s Ministry training before serving.
