This Sunday: “God, Government, and the Gospel”

Dear CrossPointe,

Hello, Beloved! I missed you last week but had a wonderful time at the Shepherds Conference in Los Angeles. It was a super-encouraging time and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to attend. Speaking of last week, I listened to Robert’s message from Luke 13 and it was excellent. In light of the devastating tornado, it was a timely, sensitive, pastoral, and thoroughly biblical word. If you missed it, I encourage you to listen to it here.

This week we pick back up in Romans 13:1–7. This is a famous text that speaks about our relationship with governing authorities. American Christians in particular have a tricky relationship with government and politics. On the one hand we have a revolutionary streak in us (Think 1776.), and yet on the other hand we’re often prone to making an idol out of political power and engagement. These are choppy waters, and we need clear heads informed by Scripture to help us navigate what it means to be a citizen of this earthly land while ultimately remembering our true citizenship is in heaven.

Man, I’m really looking forward to digging into this text with you!

I love you!

Brad
