This Sunday: “What the Kingdom Is About”

Dear CrossPointe,

Our journey through Romans has given us many opportunities to talk about the freedom of the gospel. The Good News frees us from condemnation, the tyranny of sin, the spirit of fear, even death itself. Nothing will be able to separate believers from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Praise God!

But he has done even more than free us from these things (as glorious as that is!). He’s also freed us to pursue loving one another in a way that brings him glory. I believe this reality is what is behind Paul’s exhortation to the church in our text this week, Romans 14:13–23. Again, the issue at hand is how those with weak and strong consciences should relate to one another in disputable matters and differing opinions. His point is that both should prioritize loving each other more than their freedom to abstain or to partake. And why should they do this? Because ultimately life in the kingdom of God offers us so much more than earthly freedom to eat or drink what we want. It gives us Christ’s righteousness; peace with God who was our enemy; and a joy that points us beyond this world to the next.

I can’t wait to dig into this text with you! It’s rich and full of beautiful truth for us as a local church.

See you Sunday!

Brad
