Jesus Opens Blind Eyes
Dear CrossPointe,
We are approaching a turning point in our study of Mark this week as we look at Mark 8:22-26. In this text it seems like Jesus’ first attempt to give sight to a blind man doesn’t quite get the job done, so he tries again and gets it right the second time. If nothing else, Mark has established that Jesus has all power and authority over sickness, sin, storms and demons. So what is going on in this unusual healing? Why does Jesus heal this man in stages?
In short, I think this healing account is meant to be a sort of parable to display the extent of human spiritual blindness and that Christ’s work in our lives is not just a one-time hit, but a gradual process. I’m looking forward to digging deeper with you this Sunday!
Grace and peace,
Brad
