Shattering Paradigms

Dear CrossPointe,

This week we’ll look at Mark 2:18-22, in which the people question Jesus about why his disciples don’t fast like John’s disciples and the Pharisees. In his answer, Jesus completely deconstructs their religious paradigm (which they don’t appreciate, as we’ll see in the coming weeks).

It’s always been easy for me to notice the Pharisees’ blind-spots when I read accounts like this in the Gospels. But it’s a lot harder to see how Jesus wants to deconstruct my own faulty assumptions and worldview. When Jesus enters our lives, he doesn’t merely come alongside our old life but shatters and shapes us into something entirely new.
