The Obedience of Christ

Dear CrossPointe,
J. Gresham Machen was a very important American theologian in the early 1900s. God used him in many ways to stave off theological liberalism. On his deathbed, he famously said these last words, “I’m so thankful for the active obedience of Christ: no hope without it.”
Our text this Sunday, Hebrews 5:7–10, is all about Christ’s obedience for us. The preacher tells us that, because of Jesus’ suffering, obedience, and perfection, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him. Glory!
Church, we need this text so much. We need to understand it and believe it. We need its truth to get down deep into our bones, so we can live from it.
See you Sunday,
Brad
