“Act Like Men”

Dear CrossPointe,

I’m looking forward to this Sunday. Lord willing, it will be our last stand alone message for a while before we get back into James. And, being Father’s Day, I think it is fitting for us to consider what manhood looks like from a biblical perspective. To help us think along these lines, we’ll consider this exhortation from 1 Corinthians 16:13–14: “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”

I hope this message will prove helpful for us as a whole church family, not just fathers. In fact, the focus isn’t so much about fatherhood as it is manhood in general. For that matter, I hope it will be an encouragement to women as well. The church and the world need men to act like men—men who follow Jesus and lay down their lives for others and the sake of the gospel.

One final thought about this Sunday: I know sometimes messages about manhood, although well-intended, come across as a kind of scold to men for not living up to a certain standard. That’s not my goal at all. I’m not coming with the scolding tone of judgment but the heart of a shepherd who hopes to sketch out a picture and encourage my brothers, along with myself. Pray with me that I’m able to do this and help us all grow together.

Remember, we’ll only have one service this Sunday at 10:30am, and it will be very helpful to us if you register. I hope to see many of you there, but if you’re not comfortable with gathering yet, have been sick recently, or are in a vulnerable category, please feel free to stay home and watch the livestream of the service via Facebook or our website.

Grace and peace!

Brad
