This Sunday: The King and His Kingdom

This Sunday we’ll look at Mark 1:14–20 and a concept at the very heart of Jesus’ teaching in the Gospels, the kingdom of God. In this short text, Jesus announces that God’s kingdom is at hand, and that the only proper human response is to repent and believe the gospel.

Understanding the totality of what Jesus is saying is massively important. Jesus is saying that God’s purpose is not just individual salvation but the renewal and restoration of all things and all aspects of our lives under his rule and reign. And he follows this announcement by calling his first four disciples to give up their lives for the purpose of this kingdom.

To prepare for Sunday, go ahead and read Mark 1:14-20. I also encourage you to read this helpful (and short!) summary on what the “kingdom of God” is.
