1 Cor. 32–3
CrossPointe,
This past weekend we were blessed to have Ed and Anna Moore with us, and what an encouragement they were! If you missed any of Ed’s sermons, do yourself a favor and go listen to them. They were so rich! You can find them here: https://buff.ly/3thBDRW
This Sunday I’m looking forward to gathering together and digging into 1 Corinthians 3. As we read through the book of 1 Corinthians, we may not see ourselves being the types of people Paul is talking to or about. I mean, come on! We’re not suing one another, our church isn’t split or divided, and no one that we know of is having a special pre-communion dinner party for the rich people in our church! But writing ourselves out of Paul’s teaching on the basis of “we’re not that bad” is ill-advised.
1 Corinthians 3:3 says, “For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?” Maybe it would help if we also read it like this, "For while there is [insert sinful tendencies here], are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?” Convicting, isn’t it? But the best part is how Paul goes on to draw our attention to the grace of God and apply it to our lives. And what we realize is that Paul isn’t trying to tear us down, he’s calling us to faithfulness. Paul doesn’t just want us to know we’ve been redeemed, he wants us to live as if it’s really true.
See you this Sunday, friends!
