“Strong and Courageous”

Joshua 19

Dear CrossPointe,

Joshua 1:9 reads, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” It’s a powerful reminder from the Lord to his servant that God’s faithfulness is our strength-empowering hope. Unfortunately, this passage is easily ripped from its context and used like a spiritual fortune-cookie to calm and comfort ourselves with little regard for the state of our souls before the Lord.

This Sunday, I’d like to explore the full context of this passage, Joshua 1, with an eye for what this statement meant for Joshua and Israel then, and God’s people today. As we’ll see, there’s more to Joshua’s strength and courage than meets the eye. It’s my prayer that the Lord will speak to us through his Word and strengthen our church.

I look forward to seeing you Sunday! On that note, we’ve also got a Children’s Ministry Training at 9:00am. If you’re a member of CrossPointe not already serving in this way, it would benefit our church greatly if you did. (Lord willing, as we get more folks involved we can host more Bible studies and gatherings with childcare available, too!) Volunteers serve once every five weeks or so by loving children and helping them see how great Jesus is. You can email Dee Seawright to sign up!

Grace and peace,

Robert
