“The Sacrifice of Isaac”
This Sunday we’ll be looking at Genesis 22, the account of God’s call upon Abraham to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. This is likely a familiar passage of Scripture to you, whether you grew up in the church or not.
Typically, those within the church look to Genesis 22 as a beautiful account of God’s grace, but to those outside the church it’s a handy text for arguing that the God of Christianity is cruel. Which is really true? God does ask Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. Does he really intend for Abraham to do it? In fact, does Abraham really intend to go through with it? Though we may know the answers to these questions, they really are important to ask again, because the answers reveal much to us about God’s provision as we live by faith.
I’m looking forward to digging into this text together. Be sure to read it a few times and pray that God will bless us with his Word!
